In a powerful two-hour academic-industry immersion, Brooke Holding Sdn Bhd (BHSB) welcomed 24 Quantity Surveying students from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Cawangan Sarawak, led by Senior Dr. Hjh Noraziah Wahi, Programme Coordinator for BQS667 – Oil & Gas. The session offered a gateway to real-world industry learning through purposeful engagement and cross-disciplinary insights.
The session was spearheaded by Mr. Syahrizan Junaini, Senior Manager Front End, who introduced BHSB’s corporate profile and ongoing projects. He also led the overall session and guided the student reflections, setting the tone for an inspiring and immersive visit.
An engaging highlight came from Mr. Irfannur Fiqrie Mohd Mortadza, Senior Contract Administrator and UiTM alumnus, whose story of growth from university to the oil and gas industry resonated deeply with students aspiring to walk a similar path.
Adding a human-performance lens, Occupational Health Nurse Mr. Platini K. Philips who also served as the session’s moderator facilitated a dynamic conversation on Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Culture. His sharing of the 5 Human Performance Principles emphasized the vital connection between safety, mindset and sustained operational excellence.
The two-hour session concluded with an exclusive tour of the BHSB Demak Fabrication Yard, where students witnessed live operations and observed the intricate processes behind fabrication work in the oil and gas sector.
Feedback from students and faculty was overwhelmingly positive. Described as eye-opening and motivational, the session offered a well-rounded perspective on the collaborative and human-centric nature of the oil and gas industry. Dr. Noraziah praised the experience for exceeding academic expectations and enriching the BQS667 learning outcomes.
